M47- SPEAK YOUR PIECE

WHY ARE PEOPLE AFRAID TO SPEAK UP? JUSTICE GAGGED
This is an ongoing problem. This post is not about health care but about the fact that people are fearful of expressing their views and complaints....
Here is a snippet from an article in a 'letters to the editor' section of the local newspaper.
This says it all..... Story here....
What needs to happen in the CNMI is a real dialogue with the government and community about health care. (Or any other problem for that matter.) This dialogue wasn't happening while I was there, and I doubt it is happening now. Part of the reason why I didn't more loudly bring it up while I was there was fear:
Bringing up problems with the current system sounds like criticism, and I've noticed criticism is often not tolerated by those in power. People who managed to stay on Saipan for years had one bit of universal advice: Keep your head down, don't be noticed. I suspect that many people still feel this way, and that makes an honest public dialogue problematic, but it should happen anyway.
This seems to be an ongoing problem for many people here, especially government employees, who if expressing their freedom of speech are bullied with threats of job losses or retribution in other ways.
Well right here is one guy that isn't afraid to say his piece, as you will note if you read this blog on a daily basis. Furthermore, I encourage you to state your fears and distress right here as you can say all you want and still remain anonymous.
What a better way to vent your frustrations and complaints about mistreatment and unfair practices then to write it here where many people can read it and we bloggers can pick up the ball and carry it for you. I have always stressed the fact that I don't do comment moderation, reject anonymous comments or in any way disclose who you are, besides we don't know who you are, and don't need to know either. Just spout what your problem or unjust treatment was or state facts you are afraid to air yourself, due to the bulling tactics used by the government, and we will 'air' them for you.
So in conclusion if you want to get a load off your chest because of unjust and repressed treatment let 'er rip here. Go ahead shout it out! We will listen....
It'll make you feel better! Now a good day to you!

Taotao stupid.

Glen - When you've got 5 or 6 kids at home, it is often difficult to convince yourself to put yourself in a position where you may not be able to put food on the table for those kids. It's sad. It does not serve to improve government operations or serve to improve the CNMI in the long run.

And the beat goes on... Someone has to break the chain of silence, or it goes from generation to generation.
Besides its illegal. Another good reason to have some federal agencies on board. One of the reasons I mentioned for Fitial being against federalization...

cross, While I give everyone a open forum to state their piece and make comments, you are starting out on the wrong foot. Writing taotao shit on everyones blog is Spam, it isn't 'comments'.
So good-by until you have something positive to add.

Reality check: Do you two really think that the CNMI, and specifically, the CNMI government is the only place you have to be circumspect about expressing opposing opinions? In much of corporate culture, in ALL of government culture in the much vaunted (on the local blogs) US system and elsewhere around the world you will find youreslf behind the 8 ball and without prospects and if you are vehement enough, without a job, for going against the grain. You live in a naive dream if you think you can buck the system in a US bureacracy and go unscathed.

Knucklehead is right, it does not serve the best interests of the electorate or the taxpayers, here or in the US or anywhere else, but it is the way government works everywhere. Some governments are better at hiding it, some have less finesse'.

+++++++++

Looks like 'cross' has spammed just about every blog around, Glen.

Hello Bruce, It's the ones that take on the system that get it changed. Think Rosa Parks, Erin Brockavitch, MLK, etc. You and Lil are both right, that a person embedded in the system has a hard time and possible consequences for speaking out. All the more reason to have a forum with anonomyous comments. A place to 'air' your grievances'.
P.S. You and Lil on the same page? Progress is being made!

Hey Porks, thanks for the..er, um, compliment.

This place is considerably worse than most places, where speaking out is concerned.

The ice is breaking Glen. Slowly but surely.

In my case, I have nothing personally to lose, as I'm a homemaker. I do not want to put people who are close friends or associates of mine in any compromising position. This is why I choose to blog with some anonymity.
