986- PICKING UP THE TRASH

CNMI IS FINALLY PICKING UP THE TRASH
From Guam, that is....
Have they scrutinized the reason why a guy would quit his job and leave Guam to come here to take a job and live here? Taking a $60,000 job here when the same job there pays a $100,000 there, should throw up a red flag immediately. Why would anyone in his right mind do that? I was reading the PDN regulary and ALL public school officials are dispised for their handling of the GPSS. Now the fallout is being picked up here by the NMC. NMC beware! Make darn sure of what you are getting...
The Story Here...
Read this:
NMC Hires Guam Education Official
AN ex-official of the Guam Public School System will fill one of the critical positions at Northern Marianas College identified by the accrediting commission. A chief planner of GPSS, is expected to report for work at NMC in March. His resignation from GPSS takes effect on Feb. 29. NMC’s director for institutional advancement and spokesman for the college, Mark Mendiola, yesterday said he will serve a three-year contract and will get up to $60,000 a year. The same position on Guam gets about $100,000 a year.
You be the judge, my opinion only....

No one wants the job as director for the Office of Institutional Effectiveness! NMC has not been able to fill this position for over 3 years. Why? Because it is a thankless job that gets blamed for every problem at NMC.

As for Castro, I don't expect him to last long unless he is a friend of Fernandez, a fellow Guamian that is feeding at the pork barrel at NMC. If he is, he will have no problem and will last a long time doing nothing.

Why are we hiring this Castro guy? Did the paper say that he worked for GPSS? Are the NMC Board of Regents a bunch of idiots? Haven't they been reading the paper about the problems GPSS is having?

This deserves the nomimination of the STUPIDEST MOVE OF THE FUCKEN YEAR?!!!!

By the way, Carmen Fernandez is looking for a boyfriend and I suspect that this is de DUDE! Mark Mendiola is too ugly!

Yes, the Board of Regents are a bunch of idiots! The smart ones have bailed. Read about Furey's resignation.

You know why she quit? She quit because the rest of the Board are idiots that let Fernandez do what ever she wants. There are not checks on the President. Look at all of the people that have been fired, resigned or have not been renewed lately. No questions from the Board about this.

I thought that was fishy when I read it as well Glen.

i don't think anyone with a blue passport stays here for the money. the offer i received in maui was nearly twice as much as what i'm making now, but i love the cnmi.

the cost of living is higher in maui, but i would rather raise my family here in the cnmi for reasons other than financial.

-there is a lot more love here.

-nowhere is more than 30 minutes away (without speeding).

-the people here are so giving.

-not to mention the ocean, the weather, the activities, the neighboring islands...too much to list.

-nobody cares what clothes you wear, car you drive, house you live in or job you do. if you're an asshole, you'll be treated as one. if not, you'll be happy as can be.

i don't know about the nmc deal at all, but i know that i weighed factors other than money when i decided to make the cnmi my home sweet home.

Brad, I don't think this guy took a 40% paycut to raise his family in the CNMI rather than in Guam.
I think it was more like burning bridges...

Glenn, I think you have mis-read the story. Castro was not getting $100,000 per year on Guam. What you interpret as Castro salary on Guam is Mark M. complaining about how low the salaries are at NMC and that if he, Castro, took the same job on Guam, he would get $100,000.

I think there was an earlier story about Castro getting hired, in the Saipan Tribune, that mentioned that he was getting around $50,000 per year working for GPSS. So, when he takes this job, Castro is actually getting a pay raise.

Howard, Above is a copy of my actual post. I did not say he was making $100,000 but that the same job there paid that much.
I think the real truth may be he can't get a job there anymore, hence the burning bridges comment.
Are you fimiliar with the sorry preformance of the GPSS officials?
Also read my post #987 where I tout raises for professional people.

Yes, Glenn, Castro was not offered a job for $100,000 on Guam. It was most likely filled with someone else and not available.

You did say that he took a 40% pay cut in your comment. No he did not. He is getting a pay raise by taking the job at NMC.

As for Guam Public Schools, people have said that I should move down there to teach, since I have retired from teaching here. I refuse to, because they are even more missed up than the CNMI Public Schools.

Howard, Sorry for the misleading statement about the 40% cut. You are right about that and even more right about the GPSS.
I was following the PDN and their stories about the GPSS. The people there despised the management. The PDN had a comment section below each story much like our posts have here, the comments were hateful and angry, the people were pissed. That is why I picked up on this story....
