940- YOU CAN DO BETTER

IS THIS THE CHEAPEST YOU CAN GET BY FOR? MORE FOR THE LEGISLATURE
Here is what I'm talking about......
NMI spending less on education
With a budget that has not significantly changed since 1998, the Commonwealth is spending less and less on each child that goes to a public school on the islands. The Story
This is good but you certinaly could do better then this can't you? Hell choke these little buggers down to even less, free up some more money for the school board to take a few more junkets, why not?
With a student population of 10,742 currently enrolled in CNMI public schools from Kindergarten to grade 12, the Public School System can only ante up some $3,333 per student, which is $262 less than the $3,602 spent on each child in 2001.
Hell those stupid kids don't need that much anyway, squeeze little more outta 'um, why not make it $3000.00 per student they won't need an education, they'll just grow up to go for unneeded government jobs and that don't take any schoolin'. It's simple all they need to be taught is how to vote, that shouldn't take much..
The current student-teacher ratio is 24:1, compared to the U.S. average with 17:1.
Shit why can't each teacher take on 30 or 40 of these little snotnoses? Hell that shouldn't make any difference to learnin'. So if you don't care why should anyone else care, they ain't my kids, so to hell with 'um. If you don't care no one else will either.....
See if you don't give a shit no one else will give a shit for you!
Well I hope this pisses you off then maybe you'll see the light!
.....GED.....
PS, To Stanley *TLC Torres ...This was meant to be satire to help you budget for the schools, and not to confuse you little head and issue resolutions against things that you don't understand.

Alright, I'm ready for the work day.

And don't forget the professional development / paid hangover day! All kids should believe that forgoing education for a few days is cool as long as they have the dream of one day making it to the Super Bowl!

Hey, when I was in school here, I can't remember less than 29 kids in a classroom. Oh wait.. this is why you want to decrease the ratio right? :)lol

I don't know what the formula should be for the budget. I do know that much is wasted in a variety of do-nothing programs. I think our first priority needs to be tourism. If we don't invest in our primary economic source.. we'll end up spending $200 a year per student, because we will have nothing left.

In most municipalities in the States there are two words that describe the funding method used to keep public education going:

Property Taxes

There's no such thing as a free ride......anymore. Though I think we'll see snow on Tapochau before landowners here are willing to pay tax on their beloved land.

Imagine this, foreign land ownership that's taxable to fund the public schools....hmmmm, what a concept.

Steele - You are right on. Property taxes will solve a couple of problems.. they will help "encourage" property owners to rent/lease/sell their places at real-market values, rather than let them sit vacant for months and years, hoping to get the big windfall from some off-island investor or mainland renter they've duped into paying double or triple the value. They're much more likely to rent out the property, than to sit on it and eat several hundred to a couple thousand dollars a year in property taxes.

..And the taxes could be directed towards education.

Gotta admit agreeance with your visitors. Education is everything these days and the public will/should submit every last public dollar to providing quality education, or there won't be a tt culture or any resemblance of an indigent society.

At the end of the day, people have to make their own way and public dollars are better spent on providing opportunities through education rather than subsidies like food stamps and political/family bbques.

There was a story yesterday I think about GTC having the highest test scores. They have a good administration and good teachers, I know many of them personally, but they also have by far the lowest student teacher ratio in PSS. I don't think it is a coincidence.
