792- WHAT IS THIS.. PART I

NOW YOU HAVE READ THE ABOVE STORY
So lets discuss this, take a real good look at this ...
If you took out a loan, used the money to go through school, then applied for a non-existing government job your loan would be forgiven, free, canceled, no pay-back??? Boy this is the worst case of the dumb ass I've ever seen! And you have this simple minded guy (Pete Reyes) working as an lawmaker?
The government is tighting its belt, laying off hundreds of employees and these idiots what to forgive your loan if you can't get a government job... Why am I even writing this?
Does this lawmaker have a personal benefit to gain by this legislation, does he have a family member in debt, with a loan that would be forgiven if this stupid law was passed? Look into it...
.....GED..... More on this below...

CNMI Scholarship repayment is in years of service. If you get scholarship, you have to pay back 2 years for each year given to the government. If you can't get a job working, how can you pay back your years of service? No personal benefit that I know of, and all his children, including myself are paying back our years of service. I did have a problem with my teacher loan though. Because I became an administrator and left the classroom after a few years, they wanted to charge me for not "paying back" to the government. So, it's ok if I stay in the classroom, but if I'm a counselor, Vice principal or principal it isn't really working for education. I don't think it was about the monetary component of the loan, but I agree, we need folks who come and don't, won't or can't work to pay back their loans.

Boni, I was worried about you on this. Please don't take it personally from me, I only am commenting on an issue I thought was a very bad one, the messenger, so to say. I respect you and all the hard work I realize you are doing. This issue probably needs complete revamping...
Sorry again if I upset you.

As I've stated, I don't agree with this bill. But to be fair, Pete Reyes is a pretty decent man. He doesn't get elected because of any acquaintance with large corrupt business, or promises of various paybacks to blocks of voters. He has always tried to do what he thinks is right, for no other reason than.. he thinks it's right. I'll tolerate some quirky bills by a good man with good intentions over someone who's up there solely for personal gain.

I have always thought that the current system is set so that you come back and work in the CNMI. I never recall it stating that you work in the CNMI gov't for 2 years.

I could be wrong and I will check into it.

I'm not upset at all. My dad ran for office and knows what all of it entails, so do we. I can see where this bill can go wrong, but I can also see a lot improvement if people speak up. I personally believe that if you come home and can't get a job, that you should pay back your years monetarily. Heck yeah. Think of it in the spirit of Chamorro Chin'chule. I was given a loan and expected to return it. If I don't pay with my service, then I need to pay with my wallet so that someone else can get an education too. It's what we do at birthday parties, funerals and weddings. Why wouldn't we understand the same concept applies to career?

Glen, I'm a tough girl and I will defend my dad's honor, but he also raised me to speak my mind and knows how much trouble that caused (joke). I love my father deeply, he is really my best friend besides my husband. I don't get offended too easily and neither does my dad.

Criticism and the public eye are things I've learned to accept.

Thanks Boni... Can you hear a sigh of relief coming from me? I may have dissed your father for his thinking on this bill but not anything about his reputation or character...
There were certainly others that supported this too, it was only his name on the bill that caused him to be the one criticized.
