994- PETE A. EXPLAINS HIS ACTIONS

READING THE WHOLE STORY SHEDS A DIFFERENT LIGHT ON HIS MINIMUM WAGE STANCE
In the preceding post I questioned Pete A.'s support of a minimum wage freeze. The gentleman took the time to reply and set the record straight. I felt I would be doing him an injustice if I didn't pass it along for you to decide for yourselves...
His Whole Letter of Reply Here.....
A snippet of the letter here....

A wage freeze will only happen if Congress agrees with the CNMI and American Samoan governments' positions, and then enacts legislation amending U.S. Public Law 110-28, on or before May 24, this year. Should a wage delay be enacted, my position is to include a language that will retain the May scheduled increase under the law. My proposal, if accepted will at least provide a safety net for an additional 50 cents, not much, but better than nothing at all. The two years for a comprehensive study was recommended by DOL as a representative period upon which a meaningful economic impact study could be developed which could then be used as a basis for an increase or a delay in the minimum wage implementation.
I must say I was amazed to receive a letter from Mr. Tenorio but after review and some careful interpretation I believe Pete has the best for the CNMI at heart.
You can decide too...

Nonsense. It's the same old delay tactic that has been used over and over again.. we need a further study, we need to assess, we need to..blah blah blah.

The wage increase schedule will not have the NMI meeting the 7.00 wage until 2015! Do we really need to delay this even more?

NO.

It is the governor and the American Samoa guy that are pushing for the study, as you say, the 'delay tactic' Pete was saying let, at least this May raise go through before you try to delay it.
If the congress don't agree with Ben and Samoa there won't be a freeze. Go ahead and read the whole letter. There is a link in the post....

Glend,

You are such a sucker for believing the slime Pete A. Pete A is just playing politics on the minimum wage issue.

You should just stick to pimping and getting drunk!

No politics for you Please!

where was the study that ended with the result as being to "keep the min wage at $3.05 for the past ten fucking years"? I want that study. they past lawas twice to increase it and both times repealed it. this is bullshit.

the burden should lie with them convincing us that as time lapses a wage should be stagnated not the other way around ... enough bs ... they are stuck in another time and the island is on its last thread.

I think they're all in agreement with you Glen. :) I think it's Pete and politicians in general they're disgruntled about.. and for good reason.

Have a great Sunday Glen!

Great job, getting a response from someone who matters (and is very likely to be the next Gov.) Post this one on the wall of fame. (opposite, Stanley's wall of Shame)

Lil, the point is moot. 'the cost of living in the CNMI is going to be above ANY (sorry, Ambrose) wage standards, until someone finds a way to make electricity from Seawater.

I've got to say Pete A's staff is at least browsing the net and picking up on the important points. Kudo's to them. About about some identification and recognition?

Mr. D., if you believe that Pete A. has the best interest of the people in his heart, then I have a bridge to sell you.

glend558 said...

Is it the one that spans from Saipan to Tinian? I've sold it already.
Tell me then, who can you name that does have the peoples interest in heart. It isn't the governor, not the legislature, no they think only of themselves.
TTT might be a good bet if you are looking for people for people, but they must get focused and think smartly as to how they go about it. If they took a good look at their purpose an formed a genuine plan they could help. Presently they seen too disorganized and scattered in too many different directions and tackle too many different issues, without getting any completely right. They may eventually get it together but that still needs to be seen.
You all despertly need someone pulling for the average Joe but it seems to not be any elected officials....

"You all despertly need someone pulling for the average Joe but it seems to not be any elected officials...."

EXACTLY MY POINT! Pete A. is no different from the rest except that Tina and Frica are probably two exceptions to your "any elected officials" statement.

The bridge I have for sell is the one between Pennie and Tunnuk in Chuck State of FSM. Or would you prefer the one in Koror?

And, just in case you are thinking this, I did not vote for this governor either.

The nonsense is that governments can somehow legislate prosperity.

It's an old and tired trick usually trundled out at election time. It destroys far more than it helps but those destroyed, the bottom tier of employees, are not very vocal and often a bit dull so from the politician's standpoint it is worth sending them down the river to get the votes. I'm surprised you guys bite on that minimum wage hook.

So while I recognize Pete A’s duplicity in this case, I grudgingly agree that the delay he proposes is better for those who will lose their jobs than immediate implementation.

Why not vote on it in the April election?

Then we can see "chamber" and HANMI geeks and freaks passing out "Vote No" badges at poll locations. What a great idea...Dick, Lynn, Ben, and Willie passing out "Vote NO" buttons to protect the local culture and identity...and I am sure we can drag the lawmakers on board. Who will get government contract for the badges? Could we have a nine year study to access the impact of the 50 cents? Should we ask the US to pay the 50 cents to bring chamber and HANMI on board? Could we employee some high dollar mainland lawyers and lobby gurus that would give kickbacks from CNMI funds. The possiblity is endless...and mindless. Sure, it is all about UNITY here in our commonwealth.

Death to Tyrants.
