936- CNMI AT IT'S BEST

THE CNMI GOVT. IS SUING IT'S SELF FOR SCREWING IT'S SELF
Isn't this just goofy? Read this....
NMI Govt. Eyes Suit vs. Retirement Fund
The Fitial administration (Executive branch, CNMI govmt.) is mulling a lawsuit against the NMI Retirement Fund (CNMI fund) over the suspension of pension benefits to new retirees. (CNMI retirees.) Gov. Benigno R. Fitial has instructed the (CNMI) Attorney General's Office to investigate the (CNMI) Fund's action and take legal action against the (CNMI) pension agency, according to (CNMI) press secretary Charles P. Reyes Jr.
Let's look at this picture so far... The CNMI Govmt. is suing the CNMI Retirement fund for not paying the CNMI Retirees.
Now why wouldn't the CNMI Retirement fund not be paying the CNMI Retirees?
The reason for this is the CNMI Govmt. is not paying the CNMI Retirement fund...Ah-ha!
We are convinced that it is illegal for the Retirement Fund to refuse to process benefits for new retirees,” Reyes said. “It is a breach of contract between the government employees and the Fund. The employees fulfilled their part of the bargain by paying contributions. They should not be penalized for something they have no control over.”
Now isn't it obvious the CNMI Govmt. isn't living up to their side of the bargin either?
On Nov. 20, 2007, the Fund board of trustees adopted a resolution to stop processing members' benefits. The reason: the government's continued failure to remit full contributions to the Fund and the passage of certain laws deemed damaging to the pension program.
There you have it. Govmt. isnt paying the fund as I mentioned.
Guess who wins in this push and shove game?
It's the lawyers, they will win!
Who will foot the lawyers bills, and lose in this fickle bickering?
It's you the taxpayers!
Isn't this a nice big happy family, can't you just see the love flowing!
What a pile of chicken shit! A bunch of fuckin' idiots! Thats all!

935- WHY ASK

OFFICIALS LEFT WONDERING WHAT'S HAPPENING
Legislators left holding the bag when it comes to the Bridge Investment Group. These guys are wondering what they are going to do...Well Duh. I guess you didn't leave them wondering about what YOU were doing..
Here is a part of the story.. Whole Story
Tinian Officials 'Clueless’ on Casino Investor’s Plan THE Tinian legislative delegation is still “clueless” about the plan of Bridge Investment Group LLC, which earlier announced its intention to open a new casino on the island. Covenant Sen. Henry H. San Nicolas, the delegation chairman, said officials and representatives of the company have yet to communicate with lawmakers. The company postponed its casino groundbreaking in December following the introduction of Saipan gaming bills. The measures were never passed. San Nicolas said that they are still banking on the “sincerity” of Bridge Investment.
Let's see here, you want to know what they are planning to do, and if they were 'sincere' as to what they will do...Well I guess the shoe is on the other foot now as you idiots ran around trying to force the senate to pass gaming bills completely out of context and threatened workers with their jobs so they would go beg the Senate to pass this railroaded bill through a backdoor to save their jobs. You are the 'insincere' people who are confusing the rest of the investrors who don't know what the hell you might deciede to do next. You are the loose cannons who are to blame for this hold-up. And now you have the audacity to ask them why they are on hold. Can you see this picture?
“We’re still waiting to hear from them in relation to their preparations, plans and changes, if there are any, in their decision to open a casino on Tinian. We’re still hoping that they will push through with this project,” San Nicolas said. Bridge Investment has leased 85,000 sq. meters of private land on Tinian for its casino facility. San Nicolas said the company will suffer “losses” if it will not push through with its planned investment. He hopes that the delay is just a result of permitting procedures.
Now isn't this an odd wish, to wish delays were 'only caused by the permitting process'. Now isn't this the stupidest thing ever uttered, it sure shows what these guys think about their investor, to wish they were held up by procedures. Idiots!
The delegation, he added, plans to have a conference with the company’s vice president, Philip Mendiola-Long.“We want to know what’s the real status of their plan so that if they’re facing some delays and difficulty in securing permits in agencies, the delegation and the municipality can offer help to expedite the process,” the senator said.
I don't suppose there was a time they (BIG) wanted to know just what the hell you were doing too, how about it, think that may be part of the reason you don't know now?
Dazed and confused....

933- IT'S GROUND HOG DAY EVERYDAY

THE NEWS STAYS THE SAME
This has got to be the slowest month in the history of the 558 blogspot. I usually look at the news and comment on daily happenings but it is now seemingly is always the same, Red flagged beaches, power outages, tourists being robbed, stick-ups at local markets, poker robberies, trash and vandelism, a bankrupt government, prices and wages in two different worlds, anti-federalization, moving through the rear-view mirror, no new progress anywhere, etc, etc, it just stays the same. I feel like I'm running the same gauntlet everyday. Nothing changes, nothing improves, everything seems to stand still. It's like groundhog day for everyone everyday. (If you have seen the movie 'Groundhog Day' with Bill Murray you will understand what I mean.)
The newspapers could reprint last years papers and noboby could tell the difference. Same problems, same people in office, same-o same-o. It's starting to get depressing, hence the fewer posts as the world here seems to stand still.
Wouldn't it be nice if there was something new, exciting and different happening here, but no, it's the same shit different day.. So be it.

932- UP IN SMOKE

HERE IS A GRAND IDEA
LOS ANGELES — The city that popularized the fast food drive-thru has a new innovation: 24-hour medical marijuana vending machines. Patients suffering from chronic pain, loss of appetite and other ailments that marijuana is said to alleviate can get their pot with a dose of convenience at the Herbal Nutrition Center, where a large machine will dole out the drug around the clock. "Convenient access, lower prices, safety, anonymity," inventor and owner Vincent Mehdizadeh said, extolling the benefits of the machine.
I wonder if they could do a thing like this here. I know there would be a lot of money to be made. A 12 month growing season with a 12 month tourist industry. Goes together like a bug in a rug!
I can see the MVA ad's now 'MARIJUANA LEGAL IN THE CNMI'.. Visitors would come from near and far. Planes would be filled to capacity and hotels would be filled to 110% occupancy. Restaurants would have business 24 hours a day as the 'munchies' strike the tokers and the government would roll in the dough.
This is not an impossible dream in reality but a dream made impossible by narrow minded people... Pleasent dreams!

930- A GRAND IDEA

THE SOONER YOU DO THIS THE BETTER IT WILL BE
What are you waiting on?
Taotao Tano has new allies on Tinian THE Taotao Tano CNMI Association has found allies on Tinian that will also hold mass actions against federalization. Godfrey Mendiola of Tinian disclosed in telephone interview on Tuesday that he had been communicating with Taotao Tano president Greg Cruz as they plan to join forces in conducting more activities to oppose the impending federalization of the local immigration system. Mendiola said they have formed a group called ACHA, or Ancestral Chamorro Heritage Association, that will “spread awareness among local residents” about the adverse effect of federal control.
Mendiola said he is willing to give up his U.S. citizenship if that is “what it takes to fight for self-governance and island sovereignty.” He said they want CNMI to enjoy “full democracy” and have its own representation in the United Nations. “We are calling all locals to join our organization,” he said. The Story
This is a wonderful idea, you might connect to Stanley TLC* Torres for help in forwarding this grand undertaking. I wish I would have been the one to develop this brilliant scheme. Just think of all the problems you would solve not having that bullying Uncle Sam pushing you around and forcing you to take their money. You should tell them to go fuck themselves, and the sooner the better.
Here is a a sure fired way to tell them to go to hell, organize a US passport burning, you know like the women did with their bras to get equal rights, and the draft dodgers that burned their draft cards to protest the war, yup get all the locales together and start a bonfire throw all your passports in it, that will show those assholes you don't want them around your islands forcing their will upon you anymore! Just think of all the freedoms you would have once you got rid of them bastards. Yup kick those overbearing federals the hell out of here. The sooner the better.
I suggest you organize the bonfire for your next rally, that would surely send a clear message to those idiots way over there in Washington how you feel! Those simpletons who have no clue about the CNMI and it's local traditions and customs, what the hell do they know about you, anyway, they're 8000 miles away and have never even been here, hell they don't know, shit.
Burn them passports! Do it now! What are you waiting for go ahead get that fire started now!

927- EXPLAIN THIS PLEASE

CAN SOMEONE EXPLAIN HOW THIS WORKS
Congress asked for stimulus rebates for NMI
As the House
of Representatives prepares to pass an economic stimulus package next week, Resident Representative Pete A. Tenorio has teamed up with representatives from the other territories to get the benefits outlined for taxpayers in the 50 states to be extended to the taxpayers of the territories.
In letters to congressional leaders Tenorio wrote, “The tax rebates and child credit proposed in the agreement reached yesterday by the President and House leadership would be very beneficial not only to each family in the CNMI, but also to stimulate our economy as well.” He further requested that any rebates and credits available to CNMI residents be payable by the U.S. Treasury, and that anything else would be extremely harmful to the local economy and the already insufficient budget of the local government. The Whole Story
This I don't get at all. I may sound stupid, and if I do, then I am, but where do these rebates come from? CNMI taxpayers don't pay the federal government, so how are they gonna give rebates? Please someone write a comment explaining this 'cause I'm lost....

926- S.T.R.OKE

READ AND REMEMBER THIS.. IT COULD SAVE A LIFE
STROKE: Remember The 1st Three Letters.... S.T.R.
My nurse friend sent this and encouraged me to post it and spread the word. I agree. If everyone can remember something this simple, we could save some lives. Seriously..
Please read: STROKE IDENTIFICATION:
During a BBQ, a friend stumbled and took a little fall - she assured everyone that she was fine (they offered to call paramedics) .....she said she had just tripped over a brick because of her new shoes. They got her cleaned up and got her a new plate of food. While she appeared a bit shaken up, Ingrid went about enjoying herself the rest of the evening. Ingrid's husband called later telling everyone that his wife had been taken to the hospital - (at 6:00 pm Ingrid passed away.) She had suffered a stroke at the BBQ. Had they known how to identify the signs of a stroke, perhaps Ingrid would be with us today. Some don't die.... they end up in a helpless, hopeless condition instead.
It only takes a minute to read this... A neurologist says that if he can get to a stroke victim within 3 hours he can totally reverse the effects of a stroke... totally. He said the trick was getting a stroke recognized, diagnosed, and then getting the patient medically cared for within 3 hours, which is tough.
RECOGNIZING A STROKE: Thank God for the sense to remember the '3' steps, S.T.R . Read and Learn! Sometimes symptoms of a stroke are difficult to identify. Unfortunately, the lack of awareness spells disaster. The stroke victim may suffer severe brain damage when people nearby fail to recognize the symptoms of a stroke . Now doctors say a bystander can recognize a stroke by asking three simple questions:
S * Ask the individual to SMILE.
T * Ask the person to TALK and SPEAK A SIMPLE SENTENCE (Coherently) (i.e. It is sunny out today)
R * Ask him or her to RAISE BOTH ARMS.
If he or she has trouble with ANY ONE of these tasks, call 911 immediately and describe the symptoms to the dispatcher.
New Sign of a Stroke:
Stick out Your Tongue.. NOTE: Ask the person to 'stick' out his tongue.. If the tongue is 'crooked', if it goes to one side or the other, that is also an indication of a stroke. A cardiologist says if everyone who gets this message and sends it to 10 people; you can bet that at least one life will be saved.

925- EQUAL JUSTICE

YOU MUST READ THE WHOLE STORY
The Story Here...
Lawyer questions lopsided sentences
A former local principal who admitted stealing $37,000 from a school gets five months in prison. But a Palauan man convicted of stealing a mere $24 worth of copper wire receives two years in prison.
If you haven't read the whole story this post won't make a lot of sense to you. But I think the judge is on the right track with the wire thief. These thieves needed a message sent to them and in my book it was this sentence.. This sentence was appropriate...
But on the other hand, the inappropriate sentence was for the school principal who got off too easily. Now the problem, as I see it, reducing the thief's sentence is not the right thing to do, but the principal really needed a stiffer one. I would think that can't be changed at this point in time but in the future that type of 'white collar' crime needs stiffer sentences. This then brings me to the question of government and elected officials, there seems to be no consequences for their wrong doings, if fact they are not even taken to trial ..
So whats up with this lopsided justice system? What must be done to place everyone on a level playing field? If you ask me I'll tell you that I think, "this never will ever be corrected as long as the good ole boys club runs the government. I believe it will take a whole new generation, and then some more to ever get rid of the unbalanced justice system!" Also, an elected attorney general would help. What say ye?

923- THE BIG QUESTION

BILL WANTS TO KNOW
On the subject of wasteful travel... The Whole Story Here
Please, someone (Governor Fitial?) tell the public what has happened to the OPA audit of MPLA. Why have those people never been brought to justice for their outrageously flagrant abuse of taxpayers’ money for their personal travels? Does the government allow this wanton abuse to continue? If MPLA could get away with this, then it sends the message to others that it’s allowed behavior. If we are serious about saving money and helping the folks on Saipan, then put a complete stop to all travel. At least until the economy improves. It’s been said before in hundreds of letters to the papers: if the government is serious about making improvements, then let it start by cleaning its own house and stop wasting our money — money which is critically needed for improvements on power, water, education, attracting investors, and a host of other projects. Unfortunately, it indeed has all been said before. Is anyone on Capital Hill listening? Or care?
BILL WEISS
Puerto Rico, Saipan
-------------------
Let me hear some comments on this subject. I would like to know the answer to this question, how about you? Does this silence and inaction mean the government don't care, condones this wastful spending, is incapable of handeling the matter, or just don't give a shit? What is the reason you can think of for there being no action taken about this case.

How Much Do You Love Your Mother?
Four brothers
left home for college, and they became successful doctors and lawyers and prospered. Some years later, they chatted after having dinner together. They discussed the gifts they were able to give their elderly mother who was far away in another city.
The first said, "I had a big house built for Mama."
The second said, "I had a $100,000 theater built in the house."
The third said, "I had my Mercedes dealer send her a SL600."
The fourth said, "You know how Momma loved reading the Bible and you know she can't read anymore because she can't see very well. I met this preacher who told me about a parrot that can recite the entire Bible. It took twenty preachers 12 years to teach him. I had to pledge to contribute $100,000 a year for twenty years to the church, but it was worth it. Momma just has to name the chapter and verse and the parrot will recite it."
The other brothers were impressed.
After the holidays Mom sent out her Thank You notes.
She wrote:
"Milton, the house you built is so huge I live in only one room, but I have to clean the whole house. Thanks anyway."
"Marvin, I am too old to travel. I stay home. I have my groceries delivered, so I never use the Mercedes. The thought was good. Thanks."
Michael, you gave me an expensive theater with Dolby sound. It could hold 50 people, but all of my friends are dead. I've lost my hearing and I'm nearly blind. I'll never use it. Thank you for the gesture just the same."
"Dearest Melvin, you were the only son to have the good sense to give a little thought to your gift. The chicken was delicious.
Thank you." Luv Ya,
Mama

920- GESTAPO GOVERNOR

GESTAOP GOVERNOR 'ORDERS' EMPLOYEES TO JOIN RALLY
So the people, especially government employees, don't have a mind of their own, the governor 'orders' them how to think and act. Why does this take place in a free democratic society? When the governor 'orders' them to follow they do, whether they like it or not. Here are some of the comments from my posts written about the anti-federalization rally... Check them yourself in Post's #919 and 918, under 'comments'.

Especially pitiful considering the Guv. sent word down through the ranks that all government employees were expected to attend the rally.
So why does the gov. have to order the employees, probably with their jobs on the line, to support something they don't believe in? Reminds me of another space and place in time!

919- A DIFFERENT RALLY

WERE THERE TWO RALLIES TODAY?
Well I missed the big one and only saw the little one, damn! I missed the thousands of people while watching a few others. How ever did I miss something so big? It must have been right under my nose and foolish me, I didn't even see it. If the estimates of this group was 'thousands' then the unity march was really awesome.
Read this.... The Rest of the Story
Thousands join motorcade rally vs federalization
TAOTAO Tano
CNMI Association Inc says thousands of local residents, including government officials and key figures from the islands’ three political parties, joined their “unity rally” to express their opposition to the federalization of the local immigration system. Over 100 vehicles joined the motorcade that started from the fishing base in Garapan, Taotao Tano president Greg Cruz said. He said the number of participants almost matched that of the Dec. 7 “unity march,” which drew mostly guest workers seeking improved immigration status.
What a bunch of blooming idiots, and bold faced lies, now I know to never trust the news again. Things in the real world are totally different then reported here.
To you reporters:
By Emmanuel T. Erediano & Raymond Martinez Variety News Staff... Guys you need to get your shit together and report the truths as they happen and not what you are told. If I gave you a bullshit story would you print it without first checking the facts? Well you did that here. Shame on you for writing a piece of shit like this. There wasn't more then 300 people there, at the most. There were only 65+- cars to leave the fishing basin, I counted them. Who gave you this bullshit that you so blindly printed? Surely you must check on your resources and not write just anything you hear. I will expect to see a correction to this incompetent and inaccurate reporting in the next issue of the paper.
Thank You, I'll be watching for your correction.

.....GED.....

917- UNSOUND REASONING

HELP IS BADLY NEEDED
Here is a prime example of why it is urgent the federal government take over...
'Alien Workers Intentionally Not Picking Up Checks'
TaoTao Tano CNMI Association president Greg Cruz suspects that nonresident workers are intentionally not picking up their checks and plane tickets owed them at the Labor Department because they don't want to go home.
He did say 'suspects' right? That means he don't really know, He's guessing again and spouting off about something he knows nothing about!
More than 300 checks and repatriation tickets owed to nonresident workers remain uncollected at the Department of Labor. Cruz said that guest workers are not picking up the checks because “they are waiting for the impending federal takeover.”
So let me get this straight, He 'said' ( notice it's not 'suspects' anymore he has now shifted into knowing the facts) these workers are leaving the checks that they hard worked for, then fought for, went to court for are now just disregarding them? That doesn't make a bit of sense.
“Instead of going and picking up those checks and going home, they [nonresident workers] run to the Federal Ombudsman to file a different case, stating that they have not received their checks,” Cruz said.
I see, they just like fighting for their money so much they won't pick up what they have coming to them but would rather go to court again to fight for it again, like it's a fun game. What a friggin' theory!
Labor Administrative Division director Rose Ada-Hocog said that many companies have been making payments on back wages and monetary awards for complaining workers. “It’s just that employees are not coming by to pick them up or follow up.”
How about this.. Maybe these people aren't here anymore, did that ever cross your little minds. Could it be possible they don't even know that they have checks? What attempts were made to notify the recipients of these checks? My guess is there was no attempt at all.
Many of the checks, according to Ada-Hocog range in the thousands of dollars, “and they are just sitting here.”
Sounds like a hopeless case. "Oh we have them but they aren't coming to pick them up" what a feeble minded excuse is that?
Ada-Hocog said the uncollected checks and repatriation tickets date to as far back as 1993 up to the last year and that many of them are thought to be invalid as they are past their legitimate endorsement dates.
Well I'll suppose there are people still here since 1993, 15 years waiting on their checks, If you really believe that then thank god that the federal government is going to be taking over this simple minded operated department. It sure looks like help is desperately needed!
“They are payments that employers were ordered to pay their employees as settlement for unpaid wage claims and for whatever other types of damages that were awarded to the employees,” she said. Cruz asked: “So what if they [alien workers] are intentionally not picking up their checks? Is that going to be the CNMI's problem?”
Here is a clear cut, broad view of the narrow minded thinking and stupidity expressed in a feeble minded government department. Anything other than what is in place now will be a huge improvement over the status-quo.
What a terrible case of the dumb ass!

916- FYI

HOUSE NEWS: FROM TINA SABLAN
Good afternoon everyone,
One basic
measure to ensure transparency in government is to provide sufficient public notice for public meetings. Sufficient notice allows stakeholders to properly prepare for meetings they may wish, or need, to attend, and encourages careful deliberation of policies that will affect the community before decisions are made. Except under emergency circumstances, the Open Government Act (PL 8-41) requires 72 hours public notice for meetings.
Although the Open Government Act (PL 8-41) does not currently apply to the Legislature, I believe that it should. I am committed to issuing public notices and agendas for legislative sessions as soon as that information is available to me, until the Open Government Act is applied to the Legislature and public notices for meetings are issued as a matter of course. At a minimum, I will distribute these notices via email and online at the Commonwealth Dialogues, www.tinasablan.com/forum .
I have been pleased to note that there are many other legislators who are also interested in improving transparency in the Legislature. Almost all of the current legislators in both the Senate and the House signed the petition to fully apply the Open Government Act to the Legislature last summer. More recently, there have been discussions to incorporate requirements for public notice in the official House rules, and to overhaul the official Legislature website to make it more user-friendly and to ensure that it is updated regularly.
I continue to be committed to working with my colleagues to introduce legislation that would fully apply the Open Government Act to the legislature, and welcome additional signatures to the Open Government Act petitions that were circulated over the summer. (Although we were unable to collect enough signatures in time for the 2007 ballot, we can still collect signatures for 2009; we are just a couple hundred signatures short).
This afternoon, I received Orders of Business for two sessions to be held on Tuesday, January 22 at the Legislature:
Saipan and Northern Islands Delegation, 9am (Organizational Session)
CNMI House of Representatives, 2pm
I am attaching these Orders of Business in this email, and will also be posting them online at the Commonwealth Dialogues website, www.tinasablan.com/forum .
Please feel free to contact me at 483-3935 or http://us.f359.mail.yahoo.com/ym/Compose?To=tinasablan@gmail.com for any questions or comments, or to sign the Open Government Act petition.
Thanks very much, and have a safe and peaceful Martin Luther King Day weekend.
Sincerely,
Tina Sablan

915- REMEMBER WHEN

GRAMPA TELL US 'BOUT THE GOOD OLD DAYS
When I found this it was an immediate flashback for me, see where it takes you..
LOVE TO ALL OF US WHO SHARED THIS ERA!
Almost all of us would have rather gone swimming in the lake instead of a pristine pool (talk about boring), no beach closures then.
The term cell phone would have conjured up a phone in a jail cell, and a pager was the school PA system.
We all took gym, not PE... and risked permanent injury with a pair of high top Ked's (only worn in gym) instead of having cross-training athletic shoes with air cushion soles and built in light reflectors. I can't recall any injuries but they must have happened because they tell us how much safer we are now.
Flunking gym was not an option... even for stupid kids! I guess PE must be much harder than gym.
Schools didn't offer a 14 year old an abortion or condoms (we wouldn't have known what either was anyway.)
What an archaic health system we had then. Remember school nurses? Ours wore a hat and everything.
I thought that I was supposed to accomplish something before I was allowed to be proud of myself.
I just can't recall how bored we were without computers, Play Station, Nintendo, X-box or 270 digital TV cable stations.
I must be repressing that memory as I try to rationalize through the denial of the dangers could have befallen us as we trekked off each day about a mile down the road to some guy's vacant lot, built forts out of branches and pieces of plywood, made trails, and fought over who got to be the Lone Ranger. What was that property owner thinking, letting us play on that lot? He should have been locked up for not putting up a fence around the property, complete with a self-closing gate and an infrared intruder alarm.
Oh yeah... and where was the Benadryl and sterilization kit when I got that bee sting? I could have been killed!
We played king of the hill on piles of gravel left on vacant construction sites and when we got hurt, Mom pulled out the 48 cent bottle of Mercurochrome (kids liked it better because it didn't sting like iodine did) and then we got our butt spanked. Now it's a trip to the emergency room followed by a 10-day dose of a $49 bottle of antibiotics and then Mom calls the attorney to sue the contractor for leaving a horribly vicious pile of gravel where it was such a threat.
We didn't act up at the neighbor's house either because if we did, we got our butt spanked (physical abuse) there too and then we got butt spanked again when we got home.
Mom invited the door to door salesman inside for coffee, kids choked down the dust from the gravel driveway while playing with Tonka trucks (Remember why Tonka trucks were made tough .. it wasn't so that they could take the rough carpet in the family room.)
Our music had to be left inside when we went out to play and I am sure that I nearly exhausted my imagination a couple of times when we went on two week vacations.
I should probably sue the folks now for the danger they put us in when we all slept in campgrounds in the family tent.
Summers were spent behind the push lawn mower and I didn't even know that mowers came with motors until I was 13 and we got one without an automatic blade-stop or an auto-drive. How sick were my parents?
Of course my parents weren't the only psychos. I recall Donny Reynolds from next door coming over and doing his tricks on the front stoop just before he fell off. Little did his Mom know that she could have owned our house. Instead she picked him up and swatted him for being a goof-off. The neighborhood had run amok.
To top it off, not a single person I knew had ever been told that they were from a dysfunctional family. How could we possibly have known that? We needed to get into group therapy and anger management classes! We were obviously so duped by so many societal ills, that we didn't even notice that the entire country wasn't taking Prozac! How did we ever survive?
Does this bring any fond memories into mind? Ah! the flashbacks...

914- THE LOST EMPLOYEES

NOW THEY'RE IN...... NOW THEY'RE OUT
Funds OK'd To Keep Saipan Employees
Acting Gov.
Timothy P. Villagomez approved yesterday a bill providing funds for Saipan employees affected by the planned government layoff. House Local Bill 15-19, now Saipan Local Law 15-31, appropriates $1.2 million of local pokers fees for the salaries of the Saipan workers who were issued furlough notices effective Dec. 22, 2007 due to the government's lack of funds. The employees were given a 30-day extension following a promise by the Saipan and Northern Islands Legislative Delegation to produce the money to keep them on the payroll. But the $1.2 million appropriation may not be enough to keep all 157 of the Saipan workers. Gov. Benigno R. Fitial said previously that $2.5 million was needed to fund the salaries of the employees until the end of the fiscal year, which is on Sept. 30, 2007.
Now we have money now we don't. Now we got part of it, now were looking for more. Taking money from the poker fund is simply redirecting it away from the numerous other pots this money is designated for. Would you believe how many budgets get covered by the same funds? There is never any new money just reappropriated money, out of one pocket into the other.
It makes one wonder just why these employees are there for in the first place. Are they needed or not needed. It seems this is never the subject as they are tossed around like the pawns they are. If they truly are needed keep them, if not get rid of the extra baggage. Whatever you do stop playing games, it's not fair to these people. Either they work or get laid off! In or out! One or the other!
One other phrase that bothers me is the use of the term
'non-essential jobs' what the hell does that mean? Does it mean what it sounds like that they aren't essential? Then why do they have jobs in this category, are they just there because they vote for the incumbents? Paid votes, is that legitimate government? This may be another reason for them to not want the feds here, they may see through this paid-to-vote scheme. It's illegal, you know!
Oh well, it's a mud bucket on Capital Hill, guess it'll stay that way for awhile, so why bother?

913- NEW RALLY COMING

EXTRA EXTRA READ ALL ABOUT IT HERE
I got this in my mail today so I thought I'd pass it along. If you are against federalization join in....
This is a movement to counter the unity march held late last year so you crowd counters get out there and see how much support is against federalization of labor and immigration...
CNMI Citizens Called to Rally Against Federalization
On the heels
of Washington Rep. Pete A. Tenorio's recent re-affirmation of federalization, Taotao Tano President Gregorio Cruz and other local residents are organizing a mass rally and motorcade this coming Sunday. All local groups, community and organizations are uniting together as one in opposition to the Federal takeover of the CNMI's immigration and labor system. The peaceful rally will follow the political activism of the CNMI's nonresident guest worker population clamoring for Federalization to secure improved immigration status.
"The overwhelming majority of our CNMI residents are strongly against Federalization, but they have not spoken out or made their views clear, " said Cruz. "This event is an opportunity for all of our residents to join together against Federalization without representation," he added.
Cruz emphasized the crucial need for all CNMI residents "to put their differences aside and unite as one community to speak out against the greatest threat to the CNMI's economy and local self-government." According to Cruz, the group prepared to rally against Federalization is comprised of Republicans, Democrats, Independents, & Covenant Party members, all united in one common cause: to express strong opposition to the U.S. government's plan to Federalize the CNMI and strip it of its local autonomy during a very critical period in its economic and political development.
The rally will begin at 10:00 AM, when drivers will arrive and prepare for a motorcade rally commencing at 11:00 AM. After the motorcade ends, advocates of local self-government are invited to join the group for refreshments at the Garapan Fishing Base across the Kristo Rai Church along Beach Road.
It's all up to you what to do..... count me out.

912- THINK ABOUT IT

TTT TAKES ON THE BIG LEAGUES
Criticizing a blundering local government is one thing but taking on the Federal government is taking on a handful for sure. I can't imagine what this guy wants this time, once again spouting off with no direction to go.
The TaoTao Tano CNMI Association is taking issue with Federal Ombudsman James Benedetto, particularly his “outdated and exaggerated reports” to the Interior Department about the CNMI, since it enhances the possible passage of the federalization bill. In a statement issued Monday, TaoTao Tano president Greg Cruz said the local group disagrees with Benedetto's gathering of data on uncollected monies owed nonresident workers by employers that have either closed down or packed up and left the island. “The problem with this issue,” said Cruz, “is that these employers are foreigners, not locals. Story Here
Cruz you are biting off a mouthful here, do you know what you are doing? Are you sure of your facts, have you done any research, do you have proof of what you are saying? Why do you continually stir the pot with unfounded accusations? Are you really helping anyone? What is your point, do you even have one? Where do you want to go with this, or is it just to make more noise? You need to put your efforts into something constructive and stop with the knee-jerk rhetoric. You are only making things worse for everyone. Greg you need to relax a little bit and stop swimming against the tide, or as they say, 'pissing into the wind' as neither do much good. All these things will take some time and the more you help rather than condemning everything, the faster things will clear up and start working.
Think about what you are doing and think through things a little longer before spouting off....

911- WAY TO GO JUDGE

THEY SHOULD GET THE MESSAGE
Kudos to Judge David Wiseman for the sentence meted out to a copper wire thief. Here is his message to all like minded thieves... You will do time... Story Here
THE man found guilty of two misdemeanor charges in a copper wire theft case will spend two years in jail. Wiseman noted that “the reckless conduct” of copper wire thefts is due to the lack of a deterrent factor. “I believe that this case will represent one of the few copper wire theft cases where the one responsible will spend a significant amount of jail time,” he said in his order yesterday. “It is… this court’s position that the deterrence, retribution and incapacitation factors of sentencing should be of the utmost consideration with a strong message sent to those potential copper wire thieves and other offenders that substantial jail penalties await them if they engage in these reckless and senseless criminal activities,” the judge added.
This should send a clear and much needed message to thieves... We are tired of your shit and you will do real time.. The good judge is so right, there is a much needed determent and finally here is one that speaks volumes. Now if the rest of the otherwise wrist slapping judges follow suit there can a profound effect on crimes. The old adage, 'don't do the crime if you can't do the time.'
Now this message needs to get out to the machete carrying store robbers that toleration is a thing of the past and crime = time.. There is one robbery case in the works as we speak, throw the book at these dudes and continue sending a clear message, mandatory jail time to thieves... Kudos again Judge Wiseman!

910- A WARM BUBBLY FEELING

AREN'T WE ALL HAPPY NOW
As the new legislature was sworn in Monday everyone had that renewed warm bubbly feeling toward each other.
When the session resumed, they elected their new officers and Reyes asked Hofschneider and Paterno S. Hocog, R-Rota, to inform the House that the Senate was now organized and ready to conduct business.
At this point, Reps. Victor B. Hocog, Ind.-Rota, and Edwin P. Aldan, Covenant-Tinian, came in to make a similar announcement for the House.
“Are we going to work together?” a beaming Hocog asked the senators. “The Senate will work with the House,” replied Reyes, smiling.
Well this won't last long, I guarantee it. This is just a facade and will evaporate even before the budget is passed. Please note the first bit of action must be the budget or some new members won't get paid until a budget is passed. Now here is the problem. Since the first bit of action is about MONEY, and if you want to see something go to hell faster than a speeding snowball, just watch, this will be the place.
You all know the biggest cause of discord is splitting money, If you don't believe this just ask your spouse for more than your share of the household budget, more then they get, you'll then figure this out in a hurry.
So this new legislature must start their first call to business and split a meager amount of money, herein lies the start of the arguments and in-house fighting...
Just watch. I will refer to this post in 30 days.... OR LESS...

909- A TOP TEN LIST

FIRST FOR THE YEAR 2008
TOP TEN THOUGHTS FOR '08
Number 10- Life is sexually transmitted.
Number 9- Good health is merely the slowest possible rate at which one can die.
Number 8- Men have two emotions: Hungry and Horny. If you see him without an erection, make him a sandwich.
Number 7- Give a person a fish and you feed them for a day; teach a person to use the Internet and they won't bother you for weeks.
Number 6- Some people are like a Slinky ... not really good for anything, but fun to push down stairs.
Number 5- Health nuts are going to feel stupid someday, lying in hospitals dying of nothing.
Number 4- All of us could take a lesson from the weather. It pays no attention to criticism.
Number 3- Why does a slight tax increase cost you $200.00 and a substantial tax cut saves you $0.30?
Number 2- In the '60's, people took acid to make the world weird. Now the world is weird and people take Prozac to make it normal.
AND THE NUMBER 1 THOUGHT FOR 2008: We know exactly where one cow with Mad-cow-disease is located among the millions and millions of cows in America , but we haven't got a clue as to where thousands of illegal immigrants and terrorists are located. Maybe we should put the Department of Agriculture in charge of immigration.
And the BONUS thought for today, "Life is like a jar of jalapeƱos. What you do today, might burn your ass tomorrow".

908- KILLED THE OLD COW

TO ALL HILLARY FANS... THIS ONES FOR YOU
Hillary Clinton and her driver were cruising along a country road one evening when an old cow loomed in front of the car. The driver tried to avoid it but couldn't -- the old cow was killed.
Hillary told her driver to go up to the farmhouse and explain to the owners what happened. She stayed in the car making phone calls to lobbyists. About an hour later, the driver staggered back to the car with his clothes in disarray. He was holding a half empty bottle of expensive wine in one hand, an expensive Cuban cigar in the other and was smiling happily, smeared with lipstick.
"What happened?" asked Hillary. "Well,"the driver replied, "the farmer gave me the cigar, his wife gave me the wine, and their beautiful twin daughters made mad passionate love to me."
"My God, what did you tell them?" asked Hillary. The driver replied: "I said, I'm Hillary Clinton's driver, and I just killed the old cow. That's all folks....

907- MORE BANDAGES

FIXING THE SAME OLD PROBLEMS
There is no future in this....
Contractors Hired to Fix Power Plant
Companies from
the United States, Japan, Singapore, and Australia have been hired and are now proceeding to make significant improvements to Saipan's primary power plant.
The utility agency used federal funds to jump start nearly all plant repairs and contracts after the U.S. Department of the Interior approved a total reprogramming of $6.5 million from capital improvement projects.
Do you think this will solve the problems CUC is having? Maybe on a temporary basis but there needs to be some serious planning for the long term fixes and that needs to be started now! Here's what will happen with this latest bandage. The power will be fixed on a very short term basis and all will get complacent until things run amok again then it will be de javu again. There needs to be some foresight into this problem, maybe they should listen to Dr. Thomas Arkle and his plan for nuclear power, although I won't get into the details of that now. At the very least there should be some planning in the works for the future and before this problem reoccurs they should have some long term solutions available....

906- MORE SHORTIES

ABOUT MEN AND BOYS
Men are like a fine wine. They begin as grapes, and it's up to women to stomp the shit out of them until they turn into something acceptable to have dinner with.
A three-year-old boy was examining his testicles while taking a bath. "Mom," he asked . . . "are these my brains?" "Not yet"

An elderly couple was attending church services, about halfway through she leans over and says to her husband,
Wife: "I just let out a silent fart what do you think I should do?"
Husband: "Put a new battery in your hearing aid."
A man and his wife were sitting in the living room and he said to her, "Just so you know, I never want to live in a vegetative state, dependent on some machine and fluids from a bottle. If that ever happens, just pull the plug. "His wife got up, unplugged the TV, and threw out all of his beer.

905- FINAL REPORT

A FOLLOW UP ON CAMPAIGN CONTRIBUTION REPORTING
As previously reported we were watching who would renege on their campaign contributions reports, well here is the final tally. (See Post #881, click here)
As of Jan. 8, all but two candidates in the midterm election candidates have filed their campaign finance reports. They are reelected Rep. Edwin Aldan of Tinian and outgoing Rep. Jacinta Kaipat. The Commonwealth Election Commission had granted Aldan until Jan. 4 to file, and Kaipat until Jan. 8. But they failed to meet the extended deadline. (Story Here)
So there you have it,
why can't these wannabe leaders simply file a report? Is it because they don't give a shit, are incapable of doing so or have something to hide? Why can't these lawmakers follow the very rules that themselves have enacted? This is not something new, but a reoccurring act flaunting the rules after every election. Anyone not filing their reports should NOT allowed to ever run for office again and not be allowed to be sworn into office. Period!

904- DUMB DUMBER and DUMBEST

THE 15th LEGISLATURE GRADES ITSELF, ACTUALLY BELIEVE THEY 'DUN GOOD'
The dumbest, feeble minded one thinks he's the best of all!
On the KSPN news tonight they ask the 15th legislature to grade their performance for the past years. Would you believe these idiots actually think they did a good job, they are in heir own self-centered way smugly proud of their accomplishments and proud of the number of their bills that got passed. Yup, they think if a lot of bills passed that they 'dun good'. Most of them gave themselves either a B+ or an 8 on a scale of 1-10. One individual gave himself a perfect grade, using no scale and another gave himself an AAA. Delusional, I'm atellin' y'a these people are so self-centered and out of touch they can't even see their own follies, or won't admit to them.
Let's take a brief look at some of these accomplishments and see how you would grade 'um.
First, is a sinking ship budget, unrealistic to everyone but them.
Second, a power rate fiasco, throwing CUC into a bigger mess, by pre-election vote grubbing, then CUC could make on their own.
Third and Fourth, tried to ram two gaming bills in a 'backdoor' manner, contrary to voters sentiments, both failing.
They say "ignorance breeds complacency" and here is living proof, they surely think they are doing a good job while all the rest of us 'roll downhill like a snowball headed to hell.' It's just to bad that they all are not being replaced, oh well, what the hell!
I'll let you guess who gave himself the AAA grade by looking at the picture.

903- RAILROADED BUDGET

HOUSE TRIES TO FAST TRACK BUDGET
Senator: House railroaded passage of budget bill... Story Here
THE 15th
Senate adjourned on Tuesday without acting on the fiscal year 2008 budget bill passed by the House because the measure was “railroaded.”
Senate Floor Leader Felix T. Mendiola, chairman of the Senate Fiscal Affairs Committee, said the House bill also lacked “a lot of details and justifications.”
The House is up to it's old shenanigans again, trying to force something they know isn't sound fiscal judgment through the Senate, by submitting the budget two days before the Senate adjourns. This irresponsibility is a continuing method to cover their own greed and misappropriation of the '08 budget. This budget in it's existing form will not work, but they don't care, once again, since it is loaded in favor of huge increases of funding to the legislature and screw all the rest. Just watch and see what the final outcome of this budget will be once the clearer heads in the Senate adjust it to an operational form.
I sure hope the new 16th legislature will have the common sense to overcome the greed of the 15th legislature, even though there are many reelected to serve again. (Damn I said Serve? I hope it's the people this time and not just themselves.) Only time will tell.

902- BIGGEST LOSER

WHO IS THE BIGGEST LOSER
We have two NFL teams to pick the biggest loser from. But there is a dilemma here as we are about to show you....
.
First is the Miami Dolphins, who's win-loss record was 1-15, and the Baltimore Ravens, who's win-loss record was 5-11. Now you might say that's easy, it's the Dolphins, they have the worst record. Agreed, but here is the catch, the only game the Dolphins won was against the Ravens. Yes, the Dolphins beat the Ravens in head to head play, therein lies the problem.
Now that brings us to this dilemma as to who is the worst team. If you pick the Dolphins, one could argue, but they beat the Ravens, but on the other hand the Ravens won more games than the Dolphins, so I'll leave it up to you to pick who you think was the worst team by adding a comment below....

901- ANIMAL SHELTER

ANIMAL SHELTER ON HOLD DUE TO LACK OF FUNDS
I can help you Mr. Mayor
.
SAIPAN Mayor Juan B. Tudela says his staff will construct the animal shelter now that the bidding for the project has been canceled due to insufficient funding.
Tudela has $75,000 for the project but the lowest bid submitted was $114,740.
In an interview on Friday, he said he will try whatever they can do to start the project that has been pending since he became Saipan’s mayor in 2002.
“We will do it ourselves,” Tudela said, adding that at least three of his staffers can work as carpenters.
I have a proposal for you Mr. Mayor. I can take your already funded money and produce a sufficient shelter for you to commence with your operations. If you will accept my proposal you will get results. You already have my offer, now all you need to do is accept it and you will have your shelter.
It's as simple as that.

900- MILE HIGH CLUB

I CAN BE WHATEVER YOU WANT ME TO BE
Myth's About Sexualit
A man boarded
an airplane and took his seat. As he settled in he glanced up and saw the most beautiful woman boarding the plane. He soon realized that she was heading straight towards his seat. As fate would have it, she took the seat right beside his.
Eager to strike up a conversation, he blurted out "Business trip or pleasure?"
She turned, smiled and said, "Business, I'm going to the Annual Nymphomaniacs of America convention in Chicago,"
He swallowed hard. Here was the most gorgeous woman he had ever seen sitting next to him, and she was going to a meeting for nymphomaniacs!
Struggling to maintain his composure, he calmly asked, "What's your business role at the convention?"
"I am the lead lecturer," she responded. "I take what I have learned from my own personal experiences to debunk some of the popular myths about sexuality."
"Really," he said, "and what kinds of myths are there?"
"Well." she explained, "one popular myth is that African-American men are the most well-endowed of all men, when in fact it is the Native American Indian who is most likely to possess that trait. Another popular myth is that Frenchmen are the best lovers, when actually it is the men of Jewish descent that are the best. I have also discovered that the lover with the absolute best stamina is the Southern Redneck."
Suddenly the woman became a little uncomfortable and blushed. "I'm sorry" she said, "I shouldn't really be discussing all this with you. I don't even know your name."
"Tonto," the man said, "Tonto Goldstein, but all my friends call me Bubba."

899- A COUPLA' GOOD'UNS

A FEW SHORTIES FOR YA
The most powerful liquid in the world!
A little boy was sitting on the curb with a gallon of turpentine and shaking it up and watching all the bubbles. A little while later a Priest came along and asked the little boy what he had. The little boy replied, "This is the most powerful liquid in the world, it's called turpentine."
The Priest said, "No, the most powerful liquid in the world is Holy Water. If you take some of this Holy Water and rub it on a pregnant women's belly, she'll pass a healthy baby. "The little boy replied, "You take some of this here turpentine and rub it on a cat's ass and he'll pass a Harley Davidson."
The secret to a flat tummy has been discovered!
A little boy walks into his parents room to see his mom on top of his dad bouncing up and down.
The mom sees her son and quickly dismounts, worried about what her son has seen, she dresses quickly and goes to find him.
The son sees his mom and asks' "What were you and dad doing? "
The mother replies "Well you know your dad has a big tummy and sometimes I have to get on top of it to help flatten it."
You're wasting your time." says the boy.
Why is that? asked his mom, puzzled?
Well when you go shopping the lady next door comes over and gets on her knees and blows it right back up".
Famous last words
The National Transportation Safety Board recently divulged they had "covertly" funded a project with the U.S. automakers for the past 5 years, whereby the automakers were installing black-box voice recorders in 4-wheel drive pickup trucks and SUV's in an effort to determine in fatal accidents, the circumstances in the last 15 seconds before the crash.
They were surprised to find in 38 of the 50 states the recorded last words of drivers in 61 percent of fatal crashes were,
"Look Out!" The other 39 percent were, "Oh Shit!"
Only the southern states were different, where 48.5 percent of the final words were: "Hold my beer, I'm gonna try somethin'." The other 51.5 were "Watch This Shit."

898- CARL SANDBURG.. FLASHBACK 12

THE STORY OF OLD CARL SANDBURG
During the frame of time in my life, the years when I was 18 until I was 20 I worked in a mental ward of a general hospital. The hospital was in Morristown, New Jersey and had one floor in the hospital dedicated to mental patients only. It was the 5th floor of the Franklin wing, therefore it was called Franklin Five. I was assigned to work as a technician on that floor and worked there for two years.
This story takes place there, on Franklin Five, and is about an old man named Carl Sandburg, he was one of the patients I clearly remember. The old man was 82 years old and was placed in there by his granddaughters because he was to frisky around them, always grabbing their asses and feeling them up to the point they thought he was out of control. They brought him to the hospital to see what was wrong with him, to have him evaluated as to why he was so grabby, touchy, feelie.
Well I'll tell you what, there was absolutely nothing wrong with this guy at all. This guy had an impeccable good taste for women, he was the same way around the nurses just like he was around his granddaughters, who, by the way were really good lookin' foxes, I might add. Now this guy didn't pick on all the nurses, he only picked the extremely good lookin' ones. Yes, he knew the difference, he didn't bother with the older homely looking ones, just the young foxy ones. After being around him for a few days I came to realize there was absolutely not a thing wrong with the old man except he loved good lookin' women, period. Old Carl loved to touch them too, the guy had a sly, sneaky way of slipping his hand up the nurses skirts that even made me proud and the nurses giggle. You would think they kinda liked it! Not the homely ones mind you, only the good lookin' young sexy ones, he knew the difference for sure. Well after a few days the doctors came to the same conclusion as I did, there wasn't anything wrong with him either. So the question was only were to place him, to separate him from the granddaughters. I'm not sure where he ended up but I came to this conclusion...
When I'm 82 I want to be just like him.

897- LOCK 'UM UP

THIS HOUSE IS OUT OF CONTROL... CALL THE FUNNY FARM...
BRING STRAIGHT JACKETS!
Saipan Gaming Proposal is Back!
The Saipan gaming proposal is back in the House of Representatives for reconsideration.

Just what are these idiots in the house thinking? Do they know what they are doing? Man, are they stuck on stupid? What the hell goes on up there, are they on drugs? Smoking pot? Snorting lines? Don't they know what is going on in the outside world? These numbnuts need to be throttled back and their mental health checked. This is one of the worst cases of the dumb-ass I've ever seen. They are out of control!
The bill states that the proposed gaming activities are “very viable and can be a major source of new government revenue.” Initial revenue estimates are pegged at $40 million a year.
This is proof that they are delusional! Where the hell is this $40 million dollars going to come from? I sure would like to see the research that was done to confirm these numbers.
The bill now before the House is identical to the version rejected by the Senate.
Duh! They gotta be kidding, are they really for real? I simply can't fathom this level of mentality, this is insane!
There needs to be a total revamping of this fiasco, plain and simple. I don't have enough of words to describe these actions.
So I guess I'll let it go

896- GREEDY COMES WITH STUPID

THIS HOUSE IS RUNNING AMOK, BECOMING PIGS
They are not only oblivious to reality and stupid, they are now becoming greedy too.
Here is a take on the budget allotments:
House Bill 15-328, the appropriation bill now under consideration by the House of Representatives, proposes a budget of $9.15 million for the Legislature in fiscal year 2008. This amount is nearly double the $4.6 million proposed by the governor. It is also nearly 30 percent greater than the $6.5 million the Legislature spent last fiscal year. The budget bill also sets legislative funding at the maximum levels allowed by the Constitution. The Senate president will receive $200,000, and the House speaker $250,000. Each member will get $155,000. Even the Legislative Bureau will get the funding cap level of $2 million.
Now I don't know what you think about this but I'll say this, This house needs to be completely remodeled and this blatant abuse of power must be curtailed. Somehow there must be a controlling force levied on this free falling pile of shit.
There is not a shred of evidence that these grubbers have any consideration for anyone but themselves. This shit gotta stop!
Will it take protesters and pickets lined up on Capital hill to bring them to recognize their folly, some type of impeachment or a demand for resignation? This is abuse of power at it's best and must be halted... MAYBE A 2x4 UPSIDE THE HEAD!
What say ye?
